End date or override?

A service recurs every week with no end, until you decide otherwise. Two tools stop or divert a service, and they do different things: an end date ends the service for good, while an override diverts it for a few dates and then lets it resume.

The end date

The end date is a setting on the service itself, in the Schedule card of its form. Restrict to a specific period, then End date, sets the last day the service runs; Date range also frames a first day. Past the end, the service no longer returns.

Give a service an end date when the service itself stops: a terrace lunch that only runs through summer, a brunch you take off the menu, a seasonal set menu that ends on a known date. See Services for the whole form.

The override

An override leaves the recurring service intact and changes it for specific dates only. It modifies, removes, or adds a service on those dates, then the usual schedule resumes. See Date overrides.

Use an override for a time-bounded deviation: a public-holiday closure, a special menu one evening, a week on a shifted schedule. The service still exists before and after.

How to choose

• The change is permanent and covers the whole service: an end date.
• The change is temporary and the service resumes afterward: an override.

One need can call for several overrides: one per service and per kind of change. You stack them on the same dates.

An example: a week with a guest chef

Your venue normally serves a lunch and a dinner every day. For one week, you keep only the dinner, run by a guest chef. Both services return normally the following week: an end date does not fit. You place two overrides on that week.

• A Remove override on the Lunch service, for the week’s dates: lunch disappears from the schedule and the widget on those days.
• A Modify override on the Dinner service, for the same dates: you change its name and guest message to announce the guest chef, and if needed its capacity or booking rules.

Each override takes a Date range with a day filter, which covers the whole week at once. After those dates, lunch and dinner go back to their usual schedule with nothing further from you.
